Blagh

Not much going on right now... Finished the main section on the prayer shawl I'm knitting, and working on the edging. Still have one of mom's socks to finish knitting. Cast on the first of a pair of socks for me. Though, with my luck, it'll fit mom. Again. Eh. Least she'll have a couple of pairs of hand knit socks. She'll like that. Still need to work on Sammi's blanket bit. That's been on the back burner since I started the shawl. (Thanks, Judy!) Eh. Happens.

Ciao for now, kids.

Angst

Blegh. Hate feeling like I'm losing touch with the people I care about the most and feeling like noone even gives a schiesse about it... My bond with Dave died... Sometime last week, really only came back on Friday, and feels like it's starting to fizzle out again. I'm trying to keep it from unravelling, but... Ugh. I know he's fighting to keep it up on his end. I just hope that we don't lose this. I don't know what I'd do without him... And I keep having snippets of Darryl Worley's I Miss My Friend float through my head... I don't know if that's good or bad, but it's unnerving as heck...

Cancer

My uncle Phil was diagnosed with prostate cancer (adenocarcinoma). It's already in his pelvis and spine... He's going to Sloan Kettering next Wednesday to find out how they're gonna treat it... Guess all I ask for right now is for y'all to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Heck, have your church pray for him too, if it suits.

Responsibility!

I posted last night about one of my favorite rants being kids being messy and generally lacking in proper social graces. Well, here's my general rant!

I work as a custodian in a public school on the 2:30 to 11pm shift, and I've noticed that compared to this time last year, the kids are messier. I'm not talking a few pieces of paper and a desk or two out of line, I'm talking litter all over the floors, more pen/pencil marks and paper/eraser bits left on the desks, and the desks all out of whack from where I had them the night before to get my vaccuum through.

It seems that parents and teachers don't want to take responsibilty for properly molding theis generation into people who give a schiesse about keeping things neat. I've noticed that, except for maybe two or three teachers at work, ours think it's not their responsiblity to take a few minutes at the end of class to have the kids pick up the trash off the floor and straighten up the desks. Why? Probably because they think 'Oh, it's the custodian's job to do that.' Yes it is, but it's also common courtesy to leave it presentable for the next group of students coming into the classroom.

Also, since we've had the trailer classrooms added to our area to clean, we've had to rush through our other rooms to be able to get to them before 11 with enough time to clean them. So, we don't appreciate having to spend an extra half hour scrubbing every desk and straightening out the rows enough to manuver a vacuum through them. Of course, we usually wind up having to do that in several classrooms anyway.

And the kids running around in stores... Folks, the store employees aren't there to make sure little Johnny or little Jane doesn't get hurt. That is completely your responsiblity to keep an eye on your kids and keep them out of the other shoppers' way. Your baby crying? Find out why! They depend on you for everything, they aren't crying just for attention. Don't believe me? Read Steph's blog on the matter! It's in her September Archives, under Worms and a Can Opener.

Anyway, I could probably go on, but I'd just be repeating myself. And that can get kinda boring, y'know? I'll see y'all later, folks. Hopefully a lot s0oner than nearly a year, eh?

Holy cow...

Wow. I reeeeally need to update this poor blog more...

Hm. Nothing majorly important is going on in my daily life. Well, aside from the current crop of 6th graders bein' messy little buggers. But that's a rant for another day, trust me. And don't get me started on the trailers that currently house our foreign language and Health classes... Or the new Spanish and Health teachers... Those are definitely rants for another day.

Knitwise... I finally got around to teaching myself how to knit socks. Finished my first on Saturday, Hallelujah. And I'm currently working on several projects... One of which is a prayer shawl for one of the teaachers at work who recetnly lost her brother to cancer. Nasty schiesse, but he's no longer in pain, or on morphine. And he at least died at home. Yarn is Cascade 220 heathers, the purple one. Don't have the ballband in front of me to give you the exact colorway, but that happens. Darn gorgeous yarn, and it works up even better. And it's soft as heck!!!

Yet another is a blanket/shawl/lapblanket bit. Been working on that since... Hm. I don't remember, but I think it might've been sometime in May or April I cast that on. It's Threads & Loops yarn. Don't have the band in front of me, but I'm pretty certain it's the royal umber or jewel umber. Something like that. Lovely yarn, had the last skein pool rather odd, but I'm sure the person I'm knitting it for will like it.

Have a scarf in the works for me in Paton's Classic Wool, Jade Heather. God, that's gorgeous yarn, and so soft... Can't wait til I have it fully made up... May knit a hat to match. But all I know is I want to make sure this scarf is nice and long. I sadly have a bit of a thing for nice long scarves. They have to be almost as long as I am tall for me to be happy with it. Don't know why, but oh well.

Have tow pairs of mitlets (Mittens without the annoying over the fingers bit. At least that bit's annoying to me. I'm a diehard glove person.*) on the dpns for me and mom... They're in Amazing yarn. Think that's lion brand, but I could be wrong. (*That happens alot. I don't mind so much anymore.*) Lovely yarn, just have to finish knitting the mate to mine, and knit up both of mom's. Yes, I sadly have a bit of a problem with knitting commitment... *sigh* Oh well...

Well, until later, lovlies!!! (Hopefully not nearly a year later...*)
