Mom and health schiesse

Haven't mentioned this on the blog before now because, well... I didn't want to worry you guys too much, and we were waiting on results from mom's surgery... Wait, let me backtrack some.

This all started with a wonky bit on mom's last mammogram.

Yes, you read that right. They spotted a lump on mom's latest mammogram, which had her doctor schedule a biopsy for her at the Fredricksen Outpatient Center. Lovely, lovely building from what I've seen of it, but damn, it's a pain in the arse to park. And of course, the lump were a bit contrary (much like mom, if you know her.), and were a deeper than they could easily reach with the biopsy needle, so they had to do a 3D mammogram and an ultrasound to get a better look at it. Then she went over to the Harrisburg campus for Pinnacle Health to have the lumps (There were two, less than 7mm in diameter total.) surgically removed. I have to give a shout-out to the surgical team and post op folks over there. They did a damn good job. And for some reason, David reminded me of the Lucas on Forever.

Anyway, mom got a call from the doc who did her surgery yesterday telling her that the Lump twins were indeed cancer. She doesn't remember which off-hand because she went into a bit shock just hearing that she had it. Right now, she's got another appointment on the 22nd to discuss more surgery to make sure they got all of it. (Unfortunately, can't go to this one with her because we're going to be short-handed Friday. *bangs head on wall*)

Right now, we don't know if she's going to wind up using up the rest of her annual leave and dip into next year's or just what... She works for the Commissary on the Army War College campus, and DeCA (the group who runs the commissaries) is a federal agency... Sorry if I'm not making much sense right now, I'm worried about her.

The moral of this?

Get your mammograms. They just may catch something early.
